DNA Building Competition - Date: March 23rd at Surrey Campus and March 24th at Burnaby Campus

Are you smart?  Do you have that engineering mind which allowed Watson and Crick to solve the structure of the DNA model?  Then prove your intellect and craftsmanship at SFU Science Connection’s DNA Building Competition, happening in Surrey and Burnaby campus March 23rd and 24th.  Anyone can participate and prizes will be awarded to the winner of the most accurate DNA model with the supplies given.  Groups of up to four are allowed.  Supplies will be provided but are a secret!  Also, for those who do not know what it is, we offer a general overview of DNA, which should give one enough knowledge to make an accurate model.  Any questions?  Visit us on facebook under the group name SFU Science Connection and post your questions!

Meeting February 16th 2011:

We discussed, planned and divided up tasks for our DNA building competition which is taking place in March. We hope that it will be a big success by getting as many people involved as possible in order to help connect ALL the sciences. Afterall, that's what we're about right? An email will be sent out with the list of tasks and who is responsible for each one. Thank you to all those who showed up. If you haven't been signed up to help, we will also be sending out a doodle event and hopefully you can volunteer at the event itself!

First Meeting January 31st 2011:

It seems the direction of the SFU Science Connection this semester is heading towards fun activities to engage the scientific community at SFU.  Today we discussed possible event ideas and got a few more executives signed up to help make this semester successful for the club.  Our first event could possibly be held sometime in late february.  Talks of a DNA building competition in the mezzanine at Surrey and other competitions were discussed.

Other events that we would like to put on include a Kinesiology event such as an information session or a "healthy meals day" where healthy snack ideas are passed around and people get to taste test them.  Also, a date to plan Geek Week at Surrey ("Mad Science in the Mezzanine"?), and to do some experiments or challenges on May 28th when labs will be opening up at Surrey campus.
